The Sacrament of Holy Communion is generally received for the first time in the spring of second grade. All children preparing for this sacrament must attend Religious Education for two years as per the Guidelines of the Archdiocese of New York. In addition to weekly class participation, parents are encouraged to pray with their child at home, attend Mass regularly,attend additional parent/student classes and attend the Communion Retreat with their child.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated for the first time generally in the early weeks of May. This year, children are studying from home with their parents or guardians. There will be two retreat opportunities offered in person and live streamed due to the COVID virus as we continue to socially distance.
Preparation will include immediate preparation via online sessions for parents and children.
Children will make a communion banner with their name and something that represents Jesus...a cross, candle, light etc.
